Võilaid

Võilaiu route - trip to the young horse island

About a 5-hour ride + a picnic
Break – picnic
The route begins on Tihuse Horseriding Farm at 10 o’clock. It includes a walk through water and greeting a herd of young horses on the islet. The first half of the route includes riding for about 3-3.5 hours. A picnic for about 1.5 – 2 hours takes place at the site of the artillery emplacement from World War I. Thereafter the horses are saddled and we ride back to Tihuse for 1.5-2 hours. We ride across a lot of fields and go past the ruins of Kuivastu Manor. The ride ends at about 17:00-18:00.

Võilaid

On the Islet of Võilaid young horses and bovines live freely. Pasturing cattle creates ideal conditions for a very rare species of bird in Europe called dunlin (Calidris alpina schinzii). There are about 140 pairs of these birds in Estonia.
